The Board of Trustees met on January 14, 2026, for a regularly scheduled Board meeting. Here are the highlights of the meeting. Celebrating School Counselors for National School Counseling Week

The Board acknowledges the hard work and dedication of our school counselors and recognized their efforts in meeting the needs of NUSD students in a Board resolution designating the week of February 2 - 6, 2026, as National School Counseling Week.
Cosmetology and Barber Pathway Course Approved for Adult Education

Natomas Unified School District is proud to provide 10 Career Technical Education Pathways that provide students with skills and real-world experiences for potential careers after high school. In addition to the Cosmetology Pathway, the Board approved a new Cosmetology/Barber Crossover course for the District’s Adult Education program to begin the 2026-27 school year.
This intensive two-year program fulfills the state’s 1,200-hour training requirement and will be open to the public and to students who enrolled in the Cosmetology Pathway.
District Progress Report and 2025 California School Dashboard Update

Staff provided a Board report and presentation on the District’s Progress Report (DPR), along with a summary of the District’s performance on the 2025 California School Dashboard.
Staff acknowledged the need for student improvement in English Language Arts and Math, and highlighted areas of work in progress to address these needs. Additionally, staff shared some areas where we're improving, such as progress with English Learners, lower suspension rates, and lower chronic absenteeism rates.
The interactive DPR is published online and can be accessed here via the NUSD website. It includes over 30 metrics aligned to District goals and disaggregates performance by the following student groups: Black/African American, Asian, Hispanic/Latino, White, English learners, foster youth, low-income students, and students with disabilities.
Local Control Accountability Mid-Year Update

The Board received a Mid-Year Update on the District’s Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP). As a reminder, the LCAP is a 3-year plan that describes the goals, actions, services, and expenditures to support positive student outcomes. The Mid-Year Update provides the Board and public a status check on each year’s LCAP implementation progress. To review the full report, click here.
Welcome Center Providing One-Stop Shop for Families

It’s been a year and a half since the District launched the Welcome Center, a one-stop for families to enroll in our schools and access many other services, including health, attendance, resources, translation, technology, and transportation. The Mid-Year Report highlighted the increase in traffic to the Welcome Center and data on the services families are using. Since the start of the school year, the Welcome Center has had 8,746 interactions with our families. To view the entire report, click here.
Safety and Safe Schools Mid-Year Report

The safety of students and staff remains the top priority of the District. To share the District’s safety efforts, the Safety and Safe Schools Department provided a Mid-Year Report to the Board.
The report highlighted the prevention, response, and recovery work accomplished by the Safety and Safe Schools Department since the start of the school year, including:

- Safety & Climate Liaisons
- Department Partners
- Sandy Hook Promise and NewDawn Security
The report also highlighted the student support systems being implemented with the addition of Dr. Annya Artigas, Coordinator in the Safety & Safe Schools Department, and her work supporting student behavior and discipline. To view the entire report, click here.
Constituent and Customer Services Mid-Year Update

Twice a year, Trustees are provided with a report on the Constituent and Customer Services department (CCS). CCS is a dedicated department that responds to requests and concerns from parents, staff, and community members. The report contains the number of contacts (phone calls, emails, and in-person), communication types/categories, and departments contacted, along with the closure rates. The report indicated that CCS has seen an overall increase in the number of contacts as compared to last year at this same time. To view the entire report, click here.
