Black History Month

February is Black History month! Throughout the year, but especially in February, NUSD celebrates the achievements by African Americans and recognize their central role in U.S. history. Black History Month grew out of Dr. Carter G. Woodson’s weeklong celebratory idea that started in the 1920s. Dr. Woodson, a son of former slaves and a graduate of Harvard University, wanted to ensure the stories of African Americans were included and accurately represented in American history. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Natomas Unified recognizes this month and encourages all schools to provide opportunities for students, their families, staff, and the entire community to participate in enriching lessons and activities in celebration of Black History month! We invite you to explore this page for resources to honor Black History month.

Feast and Learn

During the 2023-2024 school year, the CAFE department featured a variety of cultural foods and recipes as part of the district's Feast and Learn Series. At the end of the school year, all of the recipes were combined and published in the NUSD Feast and Learn Cookbook that can be viewed here.
