The Office of Equity In Excellence (E2)

Hello, Hola, Privit, Bonjour, Ni Hao, Kamusta, Zdravo,

 We would like to welcome you to the Natomas Unified School   District's Equity In Excellence webpages.

 What is Equity In Excellence?

 Equity, by definition, refers to fairness and justice.  Equity can be   somewhat different from equality.  For instance, equality means   providing the exact same thing to everybody whereas equity   recognizes that we do not all start from the same place and must   both acknowledge and make adjustments to various imbalances   to truly make things fair and just for all.  These concepts require us   to identify and plan for intentional and, or unintentional barriers   that are results from bias or systemic structures.

This is what the Office of Equity in Excellence at NUSD focuses on: how we can ensure all sectors of our district are demonstrating true and radical equity for all.

Please review our various webpages for more info on what we do here at NUSD to ensure we embody Equity in Excellence.

Throughout the various pages to the left (links) you can find:

  • Information on various DEI events
  • Updates
  • News
  • Culturally-Relevant resources for the classroom and/or home.
  • And much, much more.

Diversity is our Strength

At NUSD, we take pride in recognizing that our community represents a myriad of backgrounds, experiences, and identities.  We strive to ensure all are provided equity in all that we do, and we provide inclusive educational settings and environments.

We view our differences as a positive asset.  In fact, our NUSD Board of Trustees approved Administrative Regulation (AR) 0100, which outlines the following:

  • A comprehensive and scaffolded plan to systematically support equity initiatives.
  • Supports our existing Theory of Action to Support Student Success (Board Policy 0100): promoting students feeling safe and welcome in their schools; and for students to see themselves, their experiences and backgrounds reflected in the content delivered in classes.
  • Provides students with multiple and varied opportunities to exercise voice, ensuring they are part of shaping their learning experiences in school.

At NUSD, we ensure that all staff are prepared and supported to operationalize the Theory of Action.  Here are a few of those initiatives:

  • A coordinated set of professional development offerings;
  • A professional development plan that covers a three-year cycle;
  • Regular updates provided at Board of Trustees meetings;
  • Training and learning sessions for Anti-Racist/Anti-bias curriculum and instruction and Culturally Relevant Pedagogy and Classroom Management. (During these sessions, staff will learn new content, practices, and strategies as well identify areas for change and improvement);
  • Students, from 3rd-12th grade, also have opportunities to engage this full range of topics and provide input through a variety of events and activities.
