Programs

NUSD offers a variety of mentoring programs for girls. Some of those programs are geared towards Black/African American students and other underrepresented groups. All of the programs focus on supporting and elevating our students with leaderships skills, activities to build self-confidence, peer resolution conflict, and discussions and presentations on healthy lifestyles.

• All Things Pretty Inc., which is focused on girls 4th-5th and offered through LEAP Academy
• I-Vibe, which is offered during the summer months for middle school students
• Girls Leadership Inc. which is focused on girls and athletics at Inderkum
• GEMS which is focused on 9th and 10th grade girls throughout the school year at Natomas High School
• Ujima, a partnership with UC Davis offered in the summer to middle and high school Black/African American girls with an emphasis on STEM activities and careers.
• UCAN provides GEMS at Natomas High School to support girls in academics, life skills, confidence, and social-emotional supports.

The Black Program with Educator and Founder of Freedom Soul Media Education Initiatives (FSMEI) to provide culturally relevant and responsive programming for students, families, staff, and communities.

​​​​​​Members of the Black Student Unions at Inderkum, Natomas High, and Leroy Greene Academy are utilized as part of student voices for the district’s feedback and engagement efforts with students. The district also covers the membership dues for each school’s participation in the the Black Students of California United, a state organization that provides an annual conference and resources for BSUs.

The 100 Black Men of America Sacramento chapter provides a monthly Saturday Academy for boys and girls to attend that includes mentoring, health and wellness, education, and STEM-related activities. The members are leaders in various industries and serve as role models and mentors to the youth participating in the program.

NUSD provides opportunities for tiered Interventions and enrichment during the school day, outside of the school day, and during school breaks such as winter break and summer. The tiers determine the intensity and level of intervention needed for each student.

• This is a program to prepare students starting kindergarten to support a strong start
