Native American Heritage Month

Native American Heritage

Native American Heritage Month is observed in November to call attention to the culture, traditions, and achievements of the nation’s original inhabitants and of their descendants. The official designation of November as National Native American Heritage Month was signed into law in 1990. The celebration is sometimes referred to as American Indian Heritage Month.

Feast and Learn: Fry Bread

Learn how to make the Native American dish fry bread, as we celebrate National Native American Heritage Month. NUSD parent Isaac Bojorquez, and his two of his sons, Carlos and Albert, show us how to make, roll, and fry the bread in this video. The Bojorquez family also shares how fry bread was created, their traditions, and, of course, how fry bread tastes.

Also, be sure to check out this cookbook for more recipes which celebrate our diversity!
