What is the expanded learning opportunities program?
The Expanded Learning Opportunities program is an educational initiative that provides students with additional learning experiences outside of the traditional school day. “Expanded learning” means before school, after school, summer, or intersession learning programs that focus on developing the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs and interest of pupils through hands-on, engaging learning experiences. It is the intent of the Legislature that expanded learning programs are pupil-centered, results driven, include community partners, and complement, but do not replicate, learning activities in the regular school day and school year.”
How do I know if my scholar is enrolled in the program?
You will receive an "Enrollment Confirmation" email, and a program provider for the site will contact you via phone and email to offer enrollment for your scholar and provide more information about the next steps.
You can also log in to the 6crickets enrollment system and check your students current status.

Each student is eligible to participate in the LEAP Academy program. Students will be enrolled based on the date and time their applications were received. Please also note that due to ongoing workforce shortages, students might be added to a waitlist until staffing meets ratio requirements, which would then move them from the waitlist to enroll in the LEAP Academy program.
Can I pick up my child early from the LEAP Academy program?
The LEAP Academy integrates homework time as well as enrichment providers to provide activities throughout the after-school program. It is recommended that students not be picked up prior to 4:30 to allow students to participate in these activities. Some sites have required attendance based on the ASES grant, where attendance may affect student enrollment. Please adhere to the attendance policy specific to your students' site. All students must be picked up before 6:00.

If my child is not an unduplicated student but has been accepted into the program, will my child be asked to leave the program to make room for unduplicated students?
Can my child participate in LEAP Academy virtually?
Can my student with an IEP or 504 accommodations participate in the LEAP Academy?
Yes. Students with IEP or 504 accommodations are welcome to participate in the LEAP Academy. There may be a brief waiting period once a student is selected for enrollment to allow time to review documented accommodations, identify individual needs, plan appropriate supports, train or assign specialized staff, and/or make any necessary environment or classroom modifications to ensure a safe and supportive experience for your student.

How do I check on the status of my student?
Why is the ELO-P in NUSD called LEAP?
Who is eligible to participate in LEAP?
The program aims to be inclusive and serve students of all backgrounds and abilities. However, based on the ELO-P initiative, the LEAP program prioritizes unduplicated TK-8 students who are Foster Youth, English Language Learners, or students who receive free or reduced lunch. Once unduplicated students have been offered access, LEAP services may expand to all other students. Eligibility may also be determined by factors such as grade level availability and academic performance.

If I express interest in the LEAP program, is my child guaranteed a spot in the LEAP Academy after-school program?
Each student is eligible to participate in the LEAP Academy program. However, foster youth, students experiencing homelessness, English Learners, and students qualifying for free/reduced lunch services are prioritized to participate in the program based on grant requirements. Once all students in these categories are offered access, the remaining students who expressed interest will be enrolled based on the date and time the student's application was received. Please also note that due to ongoing workforce shortages, students might be added to a waitlist until staffing meets ratio requirements, which would then move them from the waitlist to enroll in the LEAP Academy program.
