Special Populations
The Coordinator for Special Populations has three primary focus areas: Communication, Information and Support, and Parent Involvement and Empowerment.
Communication:
- Facilitate communication between parents and school / district staff, addressing concerns and fostering cooperation
Information and Support:
- Assist parents in understanding the IEP process and 504 plans Help parents navigate and understand laws like IDEA Connect families to community resources support services, and training. Act as a neutral resource to help resolve differences of opinion and assist in the complaint and resolution process
Parent Involvement & Empowerment:
- Coordinate and support initiatives to increase parent involvement in school activities and decision-making Develop and conduct training to enhance parents' understanding of special education and empower their participation Foster collaborative and productive partnerships between districts and families of children with exceptional needs
